Discover local history at the Anne Arundel County Archaeology Lab! View a wide variety of artifacts from recent excavations across Anne Arundel County, from 19th-century African-American tenant farms to 13,000-year-old Native American camps. Kids and adults can try their hand at sorting artifacts, discover educational resources about local history, and learn how to get involved in archaeological digs and labwork, right here in Anne Arundel County.

Historic London Town and Gardens

Immerse yourself in the past and take in the spring splendor of our gardens this Maryland Day weekend at Historic London Town & Gardens. Join interactive tours to hear stories about the past residents and buildings of the colonial port town and learn about the many varieties of plants that grow in our 10-acre woodland gardens. Meet with living history interpreters dressed in colonial clothing, explore our exhibits full of artifacts, and enjoy the sights, scents, and sounds of London Town.

​Woodlawn History Center open special hours. Visit the oldest building in the Smithsonian still in the original location and learn about all of the different people throughout history who lived and worked on what is now the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center's campus. Learn about how this small place and local history fit into the broader national story, about the building itself, how humans impacted the environment and how Smithsonian scientists study the environment today.

​SERC trail hiking special hours. Get out into nature by hiking SERC's multiple miles of woodland trails, including along the Rhode River and Muddy Creek.
