Ring in the Year of the Wood Snake with SAM's annual Lunar New Year Family Festival at the Seattle Asian Art Museum! Enjoy live lion dances, drop-in art activities with local artists, and a storytime inspired by the holiday.

Kick off the new year with an unforgettable lion dance, spreading joy, happiness, and blessings of good health for the year ahead presented by the Lieu Quan Lion Dance team! This indoor performance is ideal for families with young children and has a limited capacity. A total of 200 wristbands will be handed out starting at 10:30 am the day of the event. There will be an outdoor lion dance at 1 pm in front of the museum that is open to all with no wristbands required.

Discover healing through movement with Seattle School of Chen Style Taijiquan

Experience a live illustrated storytime and craft with artist, Julie Kim inspired by the holiday.
11 am–2 pm
Bring a wood snake to life by contributing to a community sculpture designed by local artists, Monyee Chau and Jae Eun Kim that will be displayed at the museum for all to see.

While food, drinks, and large backpacks are not permitted in the galleries, we encourage all families to bring personal snacks and beverages to enjoy throughout the museum's lower level. All personal belongings can be stored in the self-serve lockers on a first-come, first-served basis.
