The Hobgoblin Playhouse (Main Space)
6440 Santa Monica Blvd.

A Star is Aborted is a boundary-pushing cabaret satire written by Hollywood’s premiere "female female impersonator," Maureen SanDiego. The premise is a John Waters–inspired fever dream: A drag queen fetus becomes the first baby conceived inside a gay man. Will she choose life—or remain in ******** limbo forever? This outrageous musical explores sexual freedom, fame, and queerness through grotesque glamour, powerhouse vocals, and non-stop absurdity. Think: Divine meets Weird Al in a Planned Parenthood parking lot.

ABOUT MAUREEN SANDIEGO:

A Chicago native, Maureen SanDiego has built a cult following with her fearless song parodies, chaotic stage presence, and razor-sharp wit. She’s headlined sold-out shows in Chicago and LA, shared the stage with Drag Race royalty, and was one of only eight contestants selected from over 2,000 submissions for Alaska Thunderfuck’s Drag Queen of the Year Pageant. Her work has been featured in Instinct Magazine, Block Club Chicago, Entertainment Weekly, and The Chicago Reader, praised for blending high camp with brilliant musicality. A live-singing comedy powerhouse, Maureen fuses drag, musical theatre, and satire into performances that are as gut-busting as they are gloriously grotesque. As a queer woman, she also redefines the boundaries of drag—proving that this art form is as much a woman’s world as anyone else’s.
