Ducks Unlimited aims to conduct multiple wetland habitat restoration projects across Yampa River State Wildlife Area (SWA) in north-west Colorado. The area currently has limited wetland habitat, despite the Yampa River’s importance to wetland-dependent species, and restoration work will increase the availability of quality wet-meadow, riparian, and shallow-water wetland habitats on the property. Improvements will provide managers with the ability to better control
the hydrology of the site, therefore promoting a hydrologic regime that allows for the growth of beneficial plant species necessary to sustain wildlife populations utilizing the area. Specifically, the increased quality habitat will provide forage for elk during the critical winter period, and for waterfowl needing to sustain body condition during their migration to the breeding grounds. The activities identified will ensure that these benefits persist on the property for many years and will
showcase the importance of preserving wetland habitats for local, regional, and continental populations of wildlife. Please see it for yourself!
