There are 42 wildlife management areas in the state of Virginia, and hunting is allowed on most of them. Through the Department of Game & Inland Fisheries website, you can find exactly which 42 WMAs are open to hunting, as well as which types of hunting are allowed. Hunting is also allowed at many of the state's national forests and public access lands for sportsmen, some state parks, and some federal refuges. In addition, hunting is allowed on private property with permission from the landowner. Permission must also be granted in order to retrieve hunted game from private property, even if the hunter shot from elsewhere.
